Get-together of FLAT, Vanderbilt University held in Chaoyang

The Foreign Languages Association of Tuanjiehu (FLAT) and students from Vanderbilt University, US, held a get-together in Tuanjiehu community, Chaoyang District, Beijing on the afternoon of May 17, 2019.

Though it was very hot, the get-together attracted over 40 people. At the beginning, a 72-year-old grandmother sang a song “You Are My Sunshine”. Then, Mr Chen, 92 years old, showed a song of “Hand In Hand”, theme song of Seoul 1988 Olympic Games.

Besides the performance, members of FLAT also shared their experiences about Beijing Municipality with the nine American students from Vanderbilt University. A 91-year-old grandmother said as a local she spent most of her life here and how she loves the city. She told an experience of visiting the Summer Palace when she was young. She also recommended Beijing Roasted Duck to the students.

The students from Vanderbilt University showed a group dance at the get-together. Their performance was greeted warmly.

After the dance, each of the students made a brief introduction about himself or herself and shared their feelings to Beijing.

Two of them said they liked the porridge very much. One from Chicago said, “The word for Beijing is enriching. There are so many cultures to experience.” One student from Florida said the qi was the quintessence of Chinese culture. One from New York said the efficiency of Beijing impressed him most.
