Beijing’s gross regional domestic products stood at 740.9 billion yuan (107.8 billion U.S. dollars) in the first quarter of 2019, up 6.4 percent year on year, Beijing Daily reported on May 14, 2019.
Steady, coordinating and quality-improving are the key words of the first quarter’s economic and social development.
Both investment and consumption stabilized and picked up in the first three months of 2019.
The investments of the city’s key projects and major special projects were accelerated and the construction of a total of 23 projects started, including the extension project of Beijing International Drama Center and project of China Resources Life Science Park.
“The investment made an outstanding beginning,” said a head of the city’s Commission of Development and Reform, adding that driven by the rapid increase of investment in infrastructure, industry and real estate, the downtrend of investment since July 2017 was overall turned around.
Besides investment, the consumption also made a rise in the first quarter.
The city’s market consumption was 628 billion yuan in total, rising 6.8 percent, which preliminarily turned around the consumption’s falling growth rate month by month.
Meanwhile, the coordinated development of Beijing’s urban and rural areas made new progress.
For example, the special campaign of Beautiful Countryside Construction was advanced, with the environment upgrade for some 1,300 villages in the city’s suburbs.
In the New Shougang area, a program for the international talents community was yet made preliminarily; the construction of Shougang Ski Jumping Venue for Beijing 2022 was in full swing.
Beijing demolished illegal construction of 10.35 million square meters, vacated land of 1,464.7 hectares and corrected 1,254 illegal behaviors of “tearing down exterior walls of apartments” in the first quarter.
Totally 214 enterprises of general manufacturing industry were moved out of Beijing and 36 markets or logistics centers were removed or upgraded.
Altogether 478 service stops for residents’ connivance were newly built or renovated in the first three months in 2019.
The development framework of the city’s sub-center unfolded. Beijing Daxing International Airport was preparing for operation and the first verification flights on its four runways were finished on Jan. 22, 2019.
In terms of quality-improving in economic and social development, Beijing showed up stronger growth in innovation development, high-quality development, high end industrial structure and more active market entries.
In the Future Science City, China-Russia Intellectual Property Transaction Center was put into operation.
In Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area, the constructionof a batch of projects were accerlated, including Xiaomi Internet Electronic Park, Daimler Global R&D Center and Benz new energy project.
Due to the continuing optimizing of business environment, it takes only one day to apply for and get a business license in Beijing now.
This high efficiency leads to more new market entries. Data shows that Beijing saw 40,182 newly established enterprises in the first quarter, increasing 7.8 percent.
