Beijing’s Chaoyang District recently opened a new city book house to create a more scholarly atmosphere in the Sanlitun area.
Located next to the 24-hour Sanlian Taofen Bookstore on Sanlitun West Street, the public library highlights a leisure reading area and a reading sharing area.
Under the joint effort of the government and social organizations, the book house was transformed and renovated from the old one, aiming to provide diverse reading space to better serve different readers in the Sanlitun area.
“We hope to combine the government’s resource advantages with social organizations’ operation advantages to provide richer cultural and artistic products to meet the diverse needs of citizens,” said Li Kai, librarian of Chaoyang District Library.
So far, the Chaoyang District has built 15 city book houses, and it plans to build 30 more in 2019, including comprehensive ones and the ones on different themes like medicine, law and technology.
