The 2019 Beijing International Collegiate Hockey Tournament kicked off at Shougang Ice Hockey Arena on the evening of April 15.
The tournament, the largest ever international collegiate hockey tournament in China, will last for five days, during which eight men’s ice hockey school teams from eight countries of three continents will compete.
“I hope the tournament can help more Chinese colleges and universities know and support ice hockey so that more talented and interested children can join in this sport at a school team,” said Xu Hehao, the initiator of the tournament, a Chinese student and also the captain of the ice hockey team at Bates College of the United States.
The eight school teams are from China, the United States, the Czech Republic, Belarus, Russia, Finland, South Korea and Kazakhstan. The Chinese team is from Harbin Sport University.
The teams were divided into two groups to play single round robin matches from April 15 to 17. The top two teams in two groups will play in the knockout stages in the last two match days.
Hosted by Beijing Hockey Association and supported by Chinese Ice Hockey Association and Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports, the tournament is expected to be held in Beijing annually in the future.
