The Beijing 2022 Organizing Committee will recruit volunteers globally at the end of 2019, said Zhang Jiandong, vice-mayor of Beijing and executive vice president of the committee on March 15, 2019.
Zhang made the remark when attending the annual session of the National People's Congress in Beijing.
He said this year is crucial for Beijing 2022’s preparation. Beijing will make efforts to fulfill three key tasks in 2019:
Firstly, the construction of competition venues and infrastructure will be advanced in an all-round way, which is of paramount importance.
The National Alpine Skiing Center in Yanqing competition zone will meet the requirements for test events in October 2019.
The other competition venues will be completed in succession in 2020.
Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed railway and Yanchong expressway linking Yanqing competition zone with Zhangjiakou competition zone of Beijing 2022 will open to traffic by the end of 2019.
Secondly, the competition venues shall be run in good operation.
Beijing has started managing the competition venues since 2018, taking National Aquatics Center, National Alpine Skiing Center and Chongli Yunding Skiing Park as demonstration venues.
The three venues share a common point that both the 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics will be held in them.
By making operational design of the three venues, Beijing has formed a scalable and replicable management model.
Beijing will promote this management model to other venues in 2019 to strengthen the venue management work.
Thirdly, a series of test events will be hosted in Beijing to test competition venues’ management and operation.
So far, Beijing has made sure to host 20 test events all of which belong to world cup or world championship, lasting from February 2020 to the first half of 2021.
These matches are named after “Seeing you in Beijing” winter sports events for which Beijing has established an organizing committee.
Beijing will strive to fully prepare for these events and make sure that all the venues, work staff and supporting services are in place before the test events.
Besides, Beijing will hold an activity to mark the 1,000-day countdown to Beijing 2022 in May, said Zhang.
In the second half, Beijing will unveil the mascot for Beijing 2022.
