Qualified convenience stores in Beijing are now allowed to sell medicines, reported Beijing Daily on December 3, 2018. The first of its kind is the Joy&Joy convenience store at Gongti East Road, Chaoyang district, Beijing.
In the convenience store of more than 200 square meters, the OTC drugs and various medical apparatus and instruments are displayed on shelves beside those for liquor and beverages.
“This store among our chains has stocked up 62 kinds of medicines, 35 kinds of medical apparatus and instruments, including Compound paracetamol tablets, Sijiganmao tablets, Indigowoad Root Granule, atomizer, temperature meter and hematomanometer,” said Wang Hong, vice general manger of Jingkelong company, mother company of Joy&Joy convenience store.
It is learnt that the permission to allow convenience stores to apply for retailing Class B OTC drugs and Class II medical equipment is a new measure among others to advance the convenience stores development released by Beijing recently.
It takes only over 30 days for the first convenience store that have got approval to sell drugs since the policy was unveiled.
