Beijing will host a series of international ice and snow competitions in the upcoming years, said Zhao Wen, head of Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports, a few days ago, at a press conference of the first Winter Games of Beijing.
According to Zhao, hosting more ice and snow competitions aims to meet the public’s needs of appreciating high-level ice and snow events, assist the preparation of Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games and the development of local ice and snow industry.
Zhao introduced that from March 2019, three legs matches of FIS China City Sprint Beijing 2019 will be held in Beijing’s the National Stadium(Bird’s Nest), Shougang Park’s Sports Center and Yanqing district.
In April, the matches of Group B, Division I of 2019 IIHF Ice Hockey Women's World Championship will be hosted in Shougang Park.
In May, World Curling Federation 2018-2019 Curling World Cup 2019 Beijing Leg (Grand Final) will also be held in Shougang Park.
In July, FIS Rollerski World Cup Beijing 2019 will be held on the roads around the National Aquatics Center (Water Cube). Later, Beijing will start preparing for “See you in Beijing”, a series of testing events for Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games.
Meanwhile, Beijing will continue to foster some commercial sports events, like China Games of National Hockey League, Kontinental Hockey League, Silk Road Supreme Hockey League and strive to build local events like “Olympic City Cup” International Youth Ice Hockey Invitational Tournament, to speed up forming ice hockey event circles in North China and Northeast China.
