A new round of expansion and upgrading projects were launched at Yanqi Lake International Conference Center in Huairou District of Beijing recently. Three international exhibition and convention centers will be built on the north, east and south banks of Yanqi Lake respectively to provide more venue support for small-scale summits.
At present, the planning program of constructing Yanbai Mountain Villa on the north bank has been completed and the preliminary demolishing work has begun on the ground.
According to the planning, the total construction area of the mountain villa will be about 27,000 square meters and it can accommodate about 40 to 50 people. It is expected to be ready for construction by the end of 2018 and to be completed by the end of April, 2021.
On the east bank, the Qihu Hotel, Pulan Mountain Villa and Yanqifang will be developed as a whole. They will serve as a media service center for summits and a service site for exhibition staff. The preliminary planning work has been completed and the construction is expected to begin in the first half of next year.
To the southeast of Yanqi Lake, the surrounding areas of Songxiuyuan will be developed to provide supporting service facilities for the conference and exhibition functions of the Yanqi Lake ecological demonstration region. Now the construction is under planning with the commencement date to be determined.
In the future, water routes will be opened to facilitate travel between the existing piers on the north, east and south banks of Yanqi Lake. More than 30 training centers around Yanqi Lake will also be renovated by the standards of foreign-related hotels, which require conference facilities, exhibition facilities, staff offices and Chinese-style catering services.
Apart from hosting high-level international conferences, the hotels around Yanqi Island are also open to the public.
It is learned that there will be another larger convention center equivalent to Yanqi Lake International Convention Center at Yanqi Lake International Conference Center. The construction project is now under research and planning.
