Beijing has achieved 70 percent of its goal by early November that is greening 230,000 mu(15333.33 hectares) land in 2018. Compared with previous years, forestation work of this year is more challenging, because 103,000 mu woods are required to be planted on vacated land.

A leading official of the Beijing Gardening and Greening Bureau introduced, a batch of city forest parks and leisure parks, such as Dongcheng Xinzhongjie, Xicheng Guangyanggu and Fengtai Jiayou, have been built on the adjacent lands vacated from neighboring residential areas and villages. These parks not only provide residents a place for relax but also increase the city’s green area, and remodel the ecological landscape in central Beijing. “With the greening work, we manage to control pollution, regulate disorder, and maintain a land rightly used.”

In addition to the 230,000 mu afforestation goal, Beijing also schedules to upgrade 68,000 mu green land in 2018.
