(ECNS)—Nearly 4,100 Chinese and foreign journalists have registered to cover China’s first import expo, with 630 foreign media organizations from 65 countries and regions, reporters have learned from a press briefing Friday.

The media center of China International Import Expo (CIIE), covering 130,000 square meters, will officially start operations on Sunday, and will open to journalists the day before.

The center has been designed into different functional zones and will provide equipment and technical support for media coverage. It has high-speed wifi, and each internet port is equipped with 20m bandwidth. It also has a mobile live streaming platform and 4G Internet transmission system to meet the demands of new media coverage.

The world's first import-themed national-level expo is to kick off at Shanghai’s National Exhibition and Convention Center on Monday. More than 3,000 companies from over 130 countries and regions have so far confirmed their participation in the event.

China has been the world's second largest importer of goods for nine consecutive years and made up 10.2 percent of global imports last year. Chinese authorities expect the country to import goods worth 24 trillion U.S. dollars in the next 15 years.
