Zhongguancun’s first elderly care center opened at No. 25 Building of Shuangyushuxili Community of Haidian District in Beijing recently.

With a total construction area of 2,045 square meters, the center offers 69 beds for the elderly, and now the first batch of three elders have settled in the center.

The four-floor center has various kinds of rooms like single, double and nursing rooms, meeting the demands of self-helping and semi-self-helping elders as well as the elderly with cognitive disorders and disabilities. Moreover, the center equipped with restaurants, multi-functional activity rooms, rehabilitation areas and elderly-care bathrooms provides a full coverage of functions of day care, full-time care, assistant services in dining, doctor visiting, bathing, rehabilitation nursing and spiritual comfort.

It is noteworthy that all of the center’s front-line nursing staff have a college degree or above, majoring in elderly service and management. They master advanced nursing knowledge and solid operational skills, holding a national intermediate or senior caregiver certificate.

The center has established close ties and signed cooperation agreements with Zhongguancun Hospital, Shuangyushu Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, 999 first aid stations and elderly care stations to promote an “integrated treatment and convalesce” service model and open a green channel of medical treatment so as to actively cope with the emergencies of elders.

In addition, the center has introduced seven-level evaluation criteria and established an intelligent management service platform for the elderly to recommend a suitable pension mode for elders based on the result of professional assessment of their overall condition and dynamic analysis of their physical condition.

Statistics show that by the end of 2017, the number of elderly residents in Zhongguancun Subdistrict was 31,759, accounting for 23 percent of 140,000 residents in the subdistrict. From 2017 to 2019, the subdistrict plans to build five elderly care stations, and now two stations have been put into operation.
