In Beijing, nearly 20 million medical insurance participants have enjoyed direct settlement of medical expenses and more than 600 designated medical institutions with inpatient services have been enlisted in supporting direct settlement of trans-provincial medical expenses, Beijing Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau said on August 6, 2018.
At present, the number of employees participating in medical insurance in Beijing has gradually increased from 2.1 million in 2001 to 15.93 million, and 3.79 million urban and rural residents have been covered by basic medical insurance.
Statistics show that the medical service fee reimbursement policy has totally reduced patients’ financial burden of 676 million yuan (98.6 U.S. dollars) since the separation of clinic from pharmacy reform was fully implemented in Beijing in April, 2017.
Meanwhile, Beijing established a system of outpatient special diseases in 2001 and the medical fee reimbursement policy was adjusted accordingly in recent years, cutting patients’ medical costs by 350 million each year on average.
In addition, Beijing’s medical insurance information system has now been interconnected with the ones of all cities and provinces in the country as well as Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps so as to support direct settlement of trans-provincial medical expenses. People who can enjoy the service include permanent migrating residents, permanent migrating workers, migrating referred patients and urban and rural residents with basic medical insurance.
