With the completion of the transformation of Nanxiao Street and main street’s middle section in the Moshikou area, Shijingshan District of Beijing plans to introduce folk culture elements in the area by building a group of folk museums like courtyard museums, digital museum at Fahai Temple and Beijing eight palace handicrafts museum at Cheng’en Temple.

In the future, the Moshikou area will not only reproduce the charm of Jingxi Ancient Path, but further inherit and promote the Jingxi folk history and culture.

Located in the middle of Shijingshan District, the Moshikou area is the place where diverse cultures of the Xishan Yongding River area gather together. However, with the development of urbanization, its historical and cultural landscapes were once replaced by various low-end industries and illegal buildings.

In 2016, Shijingshan District started the restoration and transformation of the Moshikou historic conservation area. After two years of hard work, the facade transformation has been completed for the buildings on both sides of the main street’s middle section and Nanxiao Street, with pines, cypresses, flower beds and bamboo forests planted and ancient building styles recovered.

Next, highlighting four historic elements of ancient paths, ancient streets, ancient buildings and folk customs, the Moshikou area will transform historic conservation or valuable courtyards into museums with their own cultural functions.

It is learned that as a core component of the Xishan cultural development belt, the historic conservation of Moshikou streets aims to develop and show folk culture based on restoring ancient street styles and better inherit and promote folk culture by building folk museums so as to become a name card to display the history and culture of Shijingshan District and Beijing.
