A total of 300 toilets in hutong in Beijing’s core area will be renovated within 2018, according to Beijing Municipal Commission of City Management on July 2, 2018.

As the pilot of public toliets’ renovation, three toliets in Longzhuahuai hutong, Dashilar and Xisi in Beijing’s Xicheng district have been upgraded so far.

The exterior wall of the toliet in Longzhuahuai hutong is made of gray bricks, which is fitting to the architecture style of the whole hutong.

Inside the toliet, there is a square central air-conditioning mounted on the ceiling and its air is cool and dry, without any peculiar smell.

“The toliet renovated as a pilot must meet three goals: neither cold in winter nor hot in summer and no peculiar smell throughout the year,”said a head of Xicehng district environment sanitary management center. The aim of mounting air-conditioning is to better residents experience.

In addition, there are many measures for facilitating residents like installed handrails for senior citizens and solar illuminating lights.
