The number of corporate headquarters in Beijing had grown from 3,937 in 2013 to 4,064 in 2017, including 886 foreign invested ones, according to 2018 International Forum on Beijing's Headquarters Economy.
In the future, Beijing will continue fostering and developing headquarters economy which matches to its strategic position as capital.
The accumulated assets, operating revenues and profits of Beijing’s corporate headquarters accounted for 70 percent, 60 percent and 90 percent respectively of the enterprises above designated size in the city, which played a supporting role to Beijing’s economic development.
Thus, headquarters economy has become a strategic support of Beijing’s high quality modern economic system.
Beijing’s headquarters economy has been a part of its high-grade, high-precision, advanced industries, with an ever increasing innovation capability as Apple, Merck Sharp & Dohme Corp. and other well-known transnational corporations’ headquarters of research and development have been settled and a few international top incubators and service platforms for starting-ups have been clustered here, which includes Microsoft Accelerator, Sino-US Innovation Center and Daimler China Shared Incubator.
Besides its increasing innovation capability, Beijing’s headquarters economy also features a rising internationalization level.
Totally of 56 firms were on the list of Fortune 500 companies in 2017. It was the fifth consecutive year that Beijing had stood on the top spot in terms of the total number of Fortune 500 companies, two thirds of which had made investment or set up branches here.
Yan Ligang, head of Beijing Municipal Commission of Commerce(BMCC), introduced that the regional and structural distributions of Beijing’s corporate headquarters are being optimized further and Beijing Future Science Park, Huairou Science Park, Zhongguancun Science Park, Innovation Demonstration Areas of Made in China 2025 as well as the subcenter will provide new space for the development of headquarters economy.
Beijing will strongly support the clustering development of corporate headquarters in the above areas.
Yan added that BMCC is revising and perfecting a new version of policy for headquarters economy which encourages corporate headquarters’ high-grade, high-precision, advanced projects’ carrying out in Beijing and supports the transformation of their research and development results on the spot.
At the same time, BMCC will make and implement a three-year action plan to optimize and improve headquarters economy.
