A special afforestation construction task consisting of eight projects, with a total of 44,000 mu(about 2,933 hectares) in suburban hilly areas in 2018 was assigned by Beijing Municipal Commission of Development and Reform(BMCDR), which involves Beijing’s eight districts: Haidian, Shunyi, Changping, Fangshan, Mentougou, Pinggu, Huairou and Miyun, according to BMCDR’s official WeChat account.
All the eight projects of the afforestation task in suburban hilly areas are newly-added afforestation, for which some typical varieties of trees will be planted.
These trees will include Chinese pine, oriental arborvitae, oak, goldenrain tree, locust and smoke tree and they are longevous, beautiful, fit for soil, of stress resistance as well as source of food.
The suburban hilly areas, with altitudes ranging from 100 to 300 meters, are the place where mountain ecosystem and plain ecosystem intervein and they are also the capital’s most important water conservation areas and ecological protective screens.
Following the implementation of “One million mu afforestation project in plain area(2012-2015)”, a new round of afforestation project has been launched in 2018, with its scope expanded from plain to the whole city.
Totally 1,000,000 mu afforested areas will have been added in suburban hilly areas, plain area, urban area and core areas from 2018 to 2022, including 938,000 mu forests, 36,000 mu wetland and 26,000 mu green land.
The relevant construction task involves nine kinds of constructions, namely, parks in urban areas, virescence of the subcenter, parks in green separator areas, plain afforestation, afforestation of barren mountains in suburban hilly areas, building green land on vacated areas, small and micro afforestation in urban areas, virescence of the platform and vacated areas in suburban hilly areas and afforestation of the beautiful countryside.
