China Eastern Airlines Co., Ltd and China Southern Airlines Co., Ltd, both have been confirmed as the two airlines taking Beijing’s new airport as their main bases.

They will transfer their international routes and flights operated in Beijing Capital International Airport to the new airport within four years after new airport’s operation, and will continue holding the approved international traffic rights, according to Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) on May 14, 2018.

As for the extensively concerned international traffic rights resource allocation for Beijing’s two airports, the principle of “single market” is adopted, namely, Beijing Capital International Airport and the new airport are deemed as one waypoint and air routes departing from the two airports to the same overseas waypoint are regarded as the same one.

Beijing’s new airport, scheduled to be in operation in 2019, is positioned as “a large international airport hub” and will enter a relationship of “operating as double hubs and competing with each other moderately” with Beijing Capital International Airport, according to related policy of CAAC.
