A painting exhibition themed “Painting hutong and telling changes: 100 works recording stories of high streets and back lanes” was held at No. 27 Yard, Neiwu Community, Chaoyangmen Subdistrict, Dongcheng District of Beijing, on the afternoon of May 8, 2018. The exhibition will last till May 15 here and then will go on a tour at the subdistrict’s other communities.
The 100 painting works, divided into four sectors: hutong changes, hutong glamor, hutong story, and lucid waters and lush mountains, display the changes the environment improvement work has brought to high streets and back lanes.
The paintings show the demolishment of illegal buildings, the cleaning work at yards and hutongs on weekends, residents taking exercises happily at newly built fitness sites and the buildings and hutongs restored with historical appearances.
Each and every painting is so well-arranged that visitors can be personally on the scene to experience the past and present of the streets and lanes in Chaoyangmen subdistrict before and after the environment improvement work.
Dongcheng District started improving environment for high streets and back lanes in 2017. Chaoyangmen Subdistrict, together with relevant departments, has conducted lots of work to bring an entirely new look to hutongs.
