At nine o’clock on the morning of April 7, a dozen of civilization guides worked at Babaoshan Cemetery and guided passengers to queue up at nearby bus stops. Owing to the guides who provided courteous services, an orderly tomb-sweeping atmosphere was created for the continuous stream of citizens.

“This year is the 12th time that I have worked as a civilization guide during the tomb-sweeping holiday. I felt happy when people said ‘Thank you for your hard work!’ to me”, said Liu Jinping, 47, who has been a civilization guide for 13 years. She introduced that from 2007, every year she gave up having trips and sweeping tombs with family and volunteered to stick to her post of advocating civilized tomb-sweeping, guiding passengers to queue up and answering questions for those in need during the three-day Qingming Festival.

Different from smiling services, the work of civilization guides has certain particularity around Babaoshan Cemetery. “Guides should pay more attention to wording and their expressions and attitudes should be more serious and solemn since people come here to honor the deceased with a heavy heart,” said an official from Shijingshan District.

It is learned that this year more than 4,000 civilization guides volunteered to participate in various activities during the tomb-sweeping holiday in Beijing.

Statistics show that during the holiday, a total of 1,002 guides guided and publicized civilized tomb-sweeping at Dongjiao funeral home and Foshan cemetery, 360 guides worked for civilized garden-touring at Yuyuantan and Taoranting parks, 400 guides worked for civilized game-watching at Worker’s Stadium, and the number of civilization guides at bus stops, subway stations and crossroads around major cemeteries, attractions and parks reached more than 1,500, 500 and 277 respectively.
