Beijing’s 11 municipal parks and the Museum of Chinese Gardens and Landscape Architecture will maintain their distinctive Spring Festival landscapes to create a festive atmosphere for Lantern Festival, which falls on March 2, 2018.
This year, the wintersweets of Wofo Temple at Beijing Botanical Garden happen to enter the flowering period on the day of Lantern Festival, providing a good place for citizens to spend the festival.
In 2018, the parks’ Spring Festival landscapes made full use of space environment such as buildings and trees and integrated with traditional elements such as red lanterns, New Year pictures, blessing cards, Chinese knots, colored flags, couplets and papercuts. More than 3,600 lanterns, 500 Chinese knots and 600 colored flags were used for decorating ancient buildings, main roads and landscapes.
The decorations will last from the Chinese New Year’s Eve till the 15th day of the first lunar month to create a festive atmosphere for tourists. The nightscape lighting will be on at Yilan Pavilion, Ruixiang Pavilion and Huxin Pavilion of Taoranting Park during the festival to create a warm and comfortable atmosphere for tourists.
In addition, Beijing Municipal Administration Center of Parks has launched cultural and creative products with traditional Lantern Festival characteristics. The commemorative and practical products are designed into five series of folk customs, blessings, toys, stationery and daily necessities.
