The feasibility study report of “Dongbazhongjie Station-Caogezhuangbeizhan Station” section of the Phase I project of Beijing metro Line 3 has been approved.
At present, the construction of the Phase I project of Line 3 is in full swing and planned to go for trial run in December 2021, according to Beijing Commission of Development and Reform(BMDR), Beijing Daily reported on February 12, 2018.
As one of the projects of Beijing’s Phase II construction plan(2015-2021), the west-east traffic artery Phase I project of Line 3 starts from Dongsishitiao Station in the west and ends at Caogezhuang Station in the east.
The 20.8-km-long underground line consisits of the 13.7-km-long section of “Dongsishitiao Station-Dongbazhongjie Station” and the newly approved 7.1-km-long section of “Dongbazhongjie Station-Caogezhuangbeizhan Station”, with nine and six stations respectively.
Upon the project’s completion, it will link many important areas including Workers’ Stadium, Sanlitun, Chaoyang Park, Xinghuo Station, Chaoyang Sports Center and Dongba blocks and further improve the density of rail transit in eastern part of the city proper, said head of BMDR.
As of the end of 2017, Beijing had had 22 subway lines in operation, covering 11 districts, with the rail transit’s total length reaching 608 km.
In 2018, western extension line of Line 6 and the third and the fourth phases projects of Line 8 are estimated to open to traffic, which together will add a combined length of 28.6 kilometers, thus the total length of rail transit will surpass 630 kilometers.
