China’s first 24-hour hospital library officially opened to the public at Beijing Children’s Hospital East Branch on December, 27, 2017, becoming the eighth Chaoyang Urban Library.

The library prepares 2,000 books for children and parents to read and people can freely borrow and return books at the library with a Beijing public library yikatong card.

In order to facilitate children, parents and hospital staff, the library opens a 20-square-meter reading area on the first floor of the hospital and seven reading corners on each floor, where adolescence literature, infant picture and parental reading books are neatly placed on bookshelves.

A self-service Beijing public library book-borrowing and returning machine is installed at the entrance to the library on the first floor. People can borrow and return books with a Beijing public library yikatong card via the machine, and they can also apply for an electronic yikatong card via WeChat if they don’t have one.

It is learned that in 2017, Chaoyang District has built eight urban libraries to serve citizens as a warm rest place and reading space in daily life. The measure of combining hospital and library is a new move to implement the people-centered service concept and realize the last kilometer coverage of public cultural services.
