The award ceremony of photo contest “2017 A New Start of Beijing in the Eyes of Foreign Friends” was held on December 14 in Beijing. A total of 50 photographers were awarded certificates and cash prizes.
The photo contest themed “2017 A New Start of Beijing in the Eyes of Foreign Friends” has drawn extensive attentions.
A total of 3,015 photos by photographers from 62 countries all over the world had flooded to the mailbox of the contest’s organizing committee.
An expert panel of judges selected 50 photos from 42 countries as first, second and third prize works and works of excellence.
The prize-winning works depicted the development of Beijing in the new era from the perspective of foreigners.
Satriah Bin Bahruddin(Li Rui, Chinese name), a third-prize winner, is an international student from Malaysia. He has studied Chinese at Beijing Foreign Studies University for three years.
When asked which aspects of Beijing attract him most, Li Rui told Qianlong.com, “Hutong as it can embody best the traditional lifestyle of locals.”
The second-prize winner Mikhail Pomerantsev from Russia is a “familiar face” to the contest since he has attended the photo contest for several times.
He expressed his gratitude to the sponsors for providing a great opportunity for photographers from different culture to come together.
Compared with Mikhail Pomerantsev, Abdizhalilova Umsunai from Kyrgyzstan is a new face for the contest.
She got the award of excellence at the first time attending the contest. Umsunai told Qianlong.com she will attend the contest in 2018.
To promote the construction of Beijing as national center for culture and international exchanges, and make foreigners know Beijing better, Beijing People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Foreign Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, Information Office of the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, Beijing Municipal Education Commission, Beijing Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, Beijing Association of Enterprises with Foreign Investment, China World Peace Foundation and Media and Communications Dept., Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2022 Olympics and Paralympic Winter Games co-hosted the photo contest.
