The fifth license plate lottery of the year will be held in Beijing on October 26. A total of 80,785 people had applied for or extended their application for license plates for new energy cars by October 8, an increase of 36,000 applicants compared to two months ago. Although this year’s license plate quota for new energy cars has been used up, the unused license plates won in the first lottery will be reallocated this time.
Beijing published the new round of license plate application on Monday. Altogether 2,860,802 people had applied for or extended their application for license plates for ordinary passenger cars by October 8, including 80,904 applications for license plates for ordinary cars from 48,388 units and 80,785 and 5266 applications for license plates for new energy cars from individuals and 3,434 institutions respectively.
This year’s license plate quota for new energy cars, which includes 51,000 for individual applicants and 3,000 for units, was used up in April. According to rules, license plates for new energy cars are directly allocated to qualified individual applicants in accordance with the time order of their applications. After the quota is used up, the applicants are put on the waiting list. In other words, there are over 80,000 applicants waiting for next year’s license plate quota for electric cars.
The unused license plates won by individual applicants in the first lottery of the year will be reassigned this month and the exact number is expected to be released on October 25.
Meanwhile, prolonged license plate applications for new energy cars need to be confirmed within the period of validity or the system will cancel the applications automatically.
