Recently, the 23 old street lights and overhead wires have been replaced by the 33 new fashionable LED street lights in the 740-meter-long Shijia Hutong in Dongcheng District of Beijing.
The new street lights are more durable and have different colors. This time, the street lights newly installed in Shijia Hutong pilot two colors and later the color will be unified depending on public opinions. The installation height of new street lights have been declined to 3.5 meters, which can solve the old problem of weak illumination caused by high street lights. The power of each new street light is only 15 watts, saving energy more than three times as much as old 70-watt street lights.
This year, Beijing plans to demolish 1,500 old street lights, remove 55-km-long overhead wires, bury 119-km-long pipelines and install about 3,500 new energy-saving street lights so as to illuminate the alleys and hutongs in core regions at night.
