In 2011, Xicheng district took the lead in launching the “smart city” construction in Beijing. In 2014, the district had built 1,541 grids equipped with the staff of urban management, comprehensive management and social services to cover 261 communities in 15 subdistricts.
Currently, the district’s communities are working on upgrading the grids’ courtyard images into a 3D real map for establishing a 3D courtyard information service management platform. Residents and working staff can upload environment and security issues to the platform via phones anywhere and anytime for promoting the construction of safe communities. Now Xicheng district has realized the intelligent management like early warning for crowds and face recognition in key areas via a comprehensive database under construction.
Meanwhile, the well-known “Xicheng Damas” (a group of aunties who provide clues to cases for public security prevention and control in Xicheng district of Beijing) have also established an online work model of WeChat, Weibo, Micro-video and App and an offline management model.
By the end of 2016, a total of 78,035 “Xicheng Damas” had real-name registered to be public security volunteers, and 2,242 of them had provided criminal clues to help the police detain 1,425 suspects in 2016. Now they are playing a more and more important role in the community management and public security prevention.
