There were less than 10 centimeters from the rooftop to the flyover at Changyang district’s Laiguangying where Metro Line 13 runs though. The rooftop belongs to one of more than 50 illegal buildings that have existed over a long time covering at least 2,000 square meters.
On August 1, these illegal houses had been demolished by the Chaoyang district branch of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of City Administration and Law Enforcement and the district’s city management committee and local township government.
Each of illegal room was built with colored steel or brick-concrete, covering about 10 square meters, where electrogeas welding business was most operated. The heavily constructed area posed great risk of fire disaster that threatened not only lives but also the subway.
By end of July, 400 residents had been relocated and the houses here had been dismantled.
