Recently, the Mutianyu Great Wall Experience Center officially opened to the public for free, with the opening time of 8: 30 to 16: 30 from Monday to Friday and 8: 30 to 17: 00 on holidays.
The 1,500-square-meter experience center is located at the tourist service center of Mutianyu Great Wall. At the entrance in the center, there is a film and television hall with a 270 degree circular screen playing a promo video to present Great Wall’s history and culture.
The center sets up a Great Wall craftsman area where visitors can experience the art of printmaking. “Printmaking is a very old painting art and the Great Wall is a new theme for this art. Visitors can experience the whole process of printmaking here,” said Zhou You, vice president of China landscape art research center.
In the future, the experience center will launch the Great Wall brick handmaking program, where parents and children are to be invited to make bricks together to enhance parent-child interaction and promote children’s understanding of the Great Wall culture.
In addition, various Great Wall tourism products like Great Wall blessing locks, bookmarks and seals are sold at the gift area of the center. The center features persimmon-related products in different styles, colors and series which are innovatively designed and developed based on the local persimmons growing at the foot of Mutianyu Great Wall.
“There are a lot of persimmon trees and persimmon leaves are good for health in tradition Chinese medicine. So we fry the local persimmon leaves into teas, which not only turns waste into treasure, but also helps surrounding villagers to increase income,” a staff member of the experience center introduced.
It is learned that the establishment of Mutianyu Great Wall Experience Center is an effort to combine the world cultural heritage of the Great Wall with local industries and the development of the area as a scenic spot. It is an effective move to benefit local development and also a contribution in creating both a Great Wall cultural belt in Beijing and a tourism demonstration area in Huairou.
