On June 25, the activity of reading a poem and donating a book was held in Beijing. A red kiosk read “love caring kiosk for poem-reading” stood on Qianmen Street and it attracted a long queue of people ranging from elders to children to read poems and donate books despite the hot weather in Beijing.

“I have read this good book and I hope fellow children of mine living in rural areas can also read it,” said a child in the queue, who came to read poems in the kiosk and donate one of his own books.

The activity was the fifth activity of the large-scale public welfare campaign themed “sending a book to the children in the hometown”. This summer, a group of love caring kiosks for poem-reading will open to the public one by one for free, including permanent ones at Beijing Book Building and Wangfujing Bookstore and temporary ones at major universities, primary and middle schools, the Imperial College, libraries, airports, railway stations and in major business districts.

It is learned that more than 120,000 copies of books for love caring have been sent to over 200 poor primary schools of 21 provinces and autonomous regions and 23 love caring libraries have been established throughout the country since the Spring Festival in 2015.
