In 2017, Beijing plans to complete the renovation work of the 25 pedestrian underpasses along Chang’an Avenue between Jianguomen and Fuxingmen, the road administration bureau of Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport said on April 20.

After renovation, white marble plaques will be set up at entrances and in a golden coating to keep consistent with the ground landscapes along the Chang’an Avenue.

The city started the renovation work of two west pedestrian underpasses in Xidan and Tian’anmen in 2016 and the renovation work of the remaining 23 ones will be started in May and completed by the end of this year.

It is learned that the 25 pedestrian underpasses were all built in mid 1980s and early 1990s, and their decorative style has been kept the same as in the 1990s since they were put into use.
