More than 400 volunteers participated in an activity themed “Caring about the children of convicts” at Sunvillage in Zhaoquanying Township, Shunyi District, Beijing on October 30, 2016. The activity was jointly organized by Beijing Charity Volunteer Federation and Qianlong.com.

Zhang Shuqin, founder of Sunvillage, introduced the history and development of Sunvillage in 20 years and children’s studies and life in the village. During the activity, the village children interacted and gave performances together with the volunteers.

Apart from this, volunteers claimed hundreds of “fruit trees of love” and donated books and clothing to the village children. “These fruit trees planted by the children themselves can help them develop a sense of self-reliance from childhood and a responsibility of being grateful to the public,” a volunteer said.

After the activity, volunteers made dumplings with the village children. “This is the most delicious meal I have ever had. Though it isn’t delicacies, it is really a joint effort of us and children. These children are angels, and they will surely spread their wings and fly in the sky,” a volunteer told.

Chen Zhibin, executive vice president and secretary-general of Beijing Charity Volunteer Federation, showed his respect to Zhang Shuqin. “Zhang is a good person for her good deeds in several decades. She helps the society remember these children of convicts and volunteers feel the warmth of our society. Children find their home and regain self-confidence and self-reliance at Sunvillage. It is Zhang, Sunvillage’s teachers and the whole society’s caring people who help the village children soar in the sky,” he said.

Huang Tingman, president and chief editor of Qianlong.com, gave a speech titled “Growing up healthy and strong in the sunshine”. He said, “The village children are the same with ordinary children who have dreams and the rights to thrive. They will grow up healthy and strong in our society full of love and sunshine. Their eagerness for thriving in the sunshine drives us. Let’s work harder and grow up with them.”
